Once you have bought a new smartphone, chances are that you stumbled a phrase like ‘water-resistant’ or ‘water-proof’ on its manual. Although these terms are used interchangeably, they are quite different in a number of ways. A water-resistant phone is one that can only remain in a pristine condition only for a few minutes after it is dropped in a pool or a bathtub. On the other hand, a waterproof phone is one that can remain in the water for a long period and still function optimally.
Mobile Phone Water Resistance Guide
From the introduction above, it is clear that some phones are water-resistant. To establish whether your phone is water-resistant or not, you will need to know the IP rating of your mobile phone.
Typically, this rating is the standard that is set by the International Electro-technical Commission that helps to establish the effectiveness of eradicating dust, sand, and water. In most cases, smartphones come with two types of IP ratings. These include IP67 and IP68.
It is imperative to note that the first digit represents the water resistance levels of a mobile phone to dust, where 6 is the highest rating possible. The second digit on the other hand shows the water-resistance levels of your device, where 8 is the highest rating possible.
If your device comes with IP68 rating, it is deemed to be a waterproof model. Such a device can remain in the water for about 1 hour, up to 30 meters deep. On the other hand, those models with the IP67 rating can only go up to 1 meter only and remain there for 30 minutes or thereabout. Such models are known to possess water-resistant properties. With those ratings at hand, it will not be difficult to establish whether your device is waterproof or water-resistant.
Check My Phone is Water-Resistant or Waterproof
Just like we have illustrated above, you just need to look out for the letter ‘IP’ then followed by either ‘68’ or ‘67’. If the model has the IP67 rating, know that your device is waterproof. On the other hand, if your device has the IP68 rating, chances are that your device is water-resistant.
Can I Shower With My Phone
It depends. Although some phones come with waterproof properties, it is advisable to keep away your phone from steam or water. Ideally, it should come with water accidentally and not intentionally or deliberately as in the end, it might get damaged unawares.
